Week 2, Assignment 2: Museum and 4 Personal Objects-Collage (6/8)

Value Drawing Process:
You can finish the Illustrator portion and finalize the drawing, painting and collage aspects on the print out in class.

TO DO:
Now that you have completed your hand drawing, scanned and place it in Illustrator during class, you can finish the Illustrator value application using Shape Builder or Pathfinder. Use nine black, white and grayscale swatch color values. You can also use the brush tool in Illustrator to apply ink, charcoal, oil, or watercolor imitations. Gradients and type are further options. Please have the Illustrator version completed, ready to show and ready to print during the start of our next class. (See the Illustrator tools listed near the bottom)

Black, white and gray hand applied materials you will use to complete the project. You can use black, white, gray texture, collage, paint, ink, etc. It is up to you.
For collage, use textured black, white or gray papers, newspapers, mirrored papers, etc. Note: you can draw the text and any surface patterns you could not use in the positive/negative version.

STUDY VOCABULARY and apply to critique: RHYTHM, CONTRAST, BALANCE, SYMMETRY, CONTINUOUS, ORIENTATION/DIRECTION, PROXIMITY, SCALE, NUMBER, ALTERATION, REPETITION, PROPORTION, AXIS, FOCAL POINT and CLOSURE, ALTERATION, DOMINANCE

Student References will show you a variety of compositions, material usages, value arrangements and more to inspire ideas.

Illustrator tools: Use: pen, curvature pen, direct select, convert anchor point, add anchor point, subtract anchor point. smooth tool, (object/path/simplify), shapes, shape builder, pathfinder, nine greyscale applications from the swatch palette.
Optional: gradients, brushes, and type/type on a path.

DIGITAL TIPS: Use nine of the gray scale values in your swatches. Strategically repeat various values throughout the drawing to create continuation for the eye. ALWAYS-make sure your Illustrator drawing layer is separate from you original placed layer. Lock the placed layer at the beginning to be sure. Always place the Illustrator drawing layer above the placed layer. Draw only in one layer creating sub-layers as you go along. Ungroup after you use Divide in Pathfinder to work on separated shapes. SAVE your drawing continuously. Save the final hand drawing and Illustrator document in your D/I-Museum Triptych-Illustrator- (and finally) Value folder. Share the files with me in your Google Drive folder. Naming conventions:
